Fayme Harper Oops Forgot the Sunscreen

I was at a camping event and I got sunburned. I was wearing a hat or a visor every time I went into the sun. It helped some I'm sure but I sunburned the top of my shoulders because I was wearing a sleeveless shirt and also on my neck. I should have put on sunblock. Somehow I never was near the sunblock when I needed it. It was always at the campsite when I was at my craft booth or something. I should have tried harder to hook up with it. Continue

Fayme Harper Color Theory

Color Theory can make fashion so much more interesting and fun. There are in fact many types of color theory. There is the art school color theory with the color wheel and complimentary colors and analagous colors and all that. But there is also the metaphysical view of color theory, like dressing to match your chakras or dressing in Kabbalistic colors. Then there is the psychological school of thought where you dress in ways to heal yourself, like wearing bright yellow on an overcast day to imp… Continue

Fayme Harper Dressing Like an Individual

I was talking in Etsy chat to another fashion designer about how we are all unique individuals and I don't want to look like anyone else and I thought most others felt the same way only to find most people want to blend in and look EXACTLY like everyone else. Why that is I'm not sure. And many Americans seem quite content to live in jeans and T-shirts. I do my best to make all my own clothes or wear things people have given me because I'm so touched that someone would give me something to wear.… Continue

Fayme Harper Ooops. lost a member

This morning I saw I had my first friend's request. So I added her. I think her name was Michelle. But now she is not showing up anywhere. Maybe she changed her mind, or maybe I hit 'do not add' instead of 'add'. Oh dear. Continue

Fayme Harper Projects brewing a'plenty

Today I got an new email just for us. It's velvetvixens@gmail.com. And I'm working on keeping a chatroom open on ETSY called Velvet Vixens. We had 3 people this morning, but sadly, the other two had to race off to work. (There's that four letter word again).

I fell asleep last night reading a book on sewing alterations, and woke up dreaming about Renaissance costuming. I really want to make a leather bodice out of leather scraps I got at a st

Fayme Harper Get ready for Halloween costumers.

Time to start planning for those Halloween costumes and Day of the Dead celebrations. I revamped the article I wrote about making Halloween costumes here: http://hubpages.com/_l6f64eotqm13/hub/Make_a_Halloween_costume

The photo at the top is my daughter. She painted her own face. Can you believe it? She's uber talented.

Fayme Harper You don't have to be rich to be a Velvet Vixen

You just have to be good at repurposing and recyling things. It helps to know how to sew and beg borrow or steal a sewing machine. Now, keep your eyes peeled for those gorgeous ball gowns at your local thrift store or bizarre. Be ready to remake a hat that looks fab but a bit shabby. It's amazing what you can do with some glitter and feathers and appliques.

If you don't know how to sew, enlist a friend to do a trade with you. They sew you a corset and you weed their garden.

Or h
